เนื่องด้วยสารเคมีที่ใช้อุตสาหกรรมยางส่วนใหญ่เป็นสารที่ไม่ละลายน้ำ ถ้านำไปผสมกับน้ำยางโดยตรงจะไม่สามารถทำปฏิกิริยาตามที่ต้องการได้ ดังนั้น ก่อนนำไปผสมกับน้ำยาง เพื่อให้เข้ากับโมเลกุลของน้ำยางที่มีขนาดเล็กและแขวนลอยอยู่ในน้ำ จึงต้องเตรียม เป็น ดิสเพอร์ชั่น (Dispersion) หรือ อิมัลชั่น (Emulsion) เพื่อให้สะดวกและลดขั้นตอนในการเตรียมสารเคมีสำหรับการผสมในน้ำยางคอมปาวน์ (latex compound )
